Lab Experiences

  • In Dr. James Farquahar’s lab, the main research is finding the origin and source of atmospheric and aquatic methane using isotopes. I mainly assisted with aquatic methane. I collected water samples from residential groundwater wells in Western Maryland and from tidal wetlands at Jug Bay. We determine the methane concentration by applying the headspace analysis technique of filling the vials with nitrogen. I worked with equipment such as GC-FID and Piccaro to measure the methane concentrations from the water samples.
